The Charter Schools Educational Trust

Transforming lives through the power of inclusive education

Welcome From the Chair

I’m delighted to welcome you to The Charter Schools Educational Trust.

We are committed to transforming the lives of the young people in our community through the power of inclusive education.

We are a family of three schools in Southwark, Southeast London. The first school, the Charter School North Dulwich, a secondary school rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, was founded in 2000 following a parent-led campaign.

The Charter School East Dulwich, also a secondary school, opened in 2016 and was rated as 'Good' by Ofsted in 2019. The Charter East Dulwich was founded as a result of a successful, parent-led bid to the Department of Education, through the Free School programme.

Most recently we have welcomed Charles Dickens Primary School in the North of the borough into our Trust family. Rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted, the school also leads the London South Teaching School Alliance and is a designated Education Endowment Foundation research school.

As a result the Trust can now offer cross-phase expertise, and provide opportunities for collaboration on staff training and development and a programme of support and events to get more teachers using research evidence to make a positive difference in the classroom.

All our schools reflect the Trust’s commitment to non-selective, co-educational learning, serving the diverse local communities in which they are based.

As an educational trust, our goals are to be a beacon of exceptional practice for inclusive education within and beyond our local community; to serve students in our community in Southeast London throughout their school careers, and to have the capacity and expertise to grow and sustain our family of schools.
