We currently have vacancies for three Appointed Governors on the Local Governing Body at The Belham Primary School.
About The Belham Primary School
The Belham Primary School is a two-form entry, state-funded free-school in Peckham, south London and has been part of The Charter Schools Educational Trust (the ‘Trust’) since joining in April 2021. The school opened in September 2015 after the need for more primary school places in the local area was identified by the Department for Education. The school was awarded ‘Good’ by Ofsted in its most recent inspection in July 2018, inspectors stating that 'The Belham is a close, nurturing school'.
The Belham share with their children their core values of Bravery, Enthusiasm, Love, Help, Ambition, Modesty, Inspiration, Trust and Equality, and these are at the heart of everything they do at The Belham Primary School. Each of these values equal weighting through a knowledge-rich curriculum, engaging teaching, great relationships and strong partnerships.
The Belham's vision of “Outstanding Learning, Glittering Curriculum, Everyone Matters, and Heart of the Community” is central to who they are as a school, and their approach to learning ensures that standards of the National Curriculum are met, and that children's education is extended far beyond this. A highly enriched curriculum and a wide range of experiences foster children's curiosity about the wider world. The visual arts, design and technology, music and drama all play different roles in helping children develop skills for life.
Essential to the creative curriculum is making use of the incredible resources that London provides: from museums, theatres, parks and public buildings, to the wide range of people themselves. The taught curriculum also reflects the diversity and vibrancy of the local community: socially, culturally and ethnically.
The school promotes a positive, energetic and caring atmosphere in which children feel safe and secure and want to come to school. Finally, The Belham are dedicated to equality and opportunity where all children and adults are respected, regardless of race, ethnicity or ability.
We are looking to appoint three governors to join the local governing body at the school.
The local governing body is made up of dedicated volunteers who bring a range of skills and experience from their professional, personal, and volunteering lives. As a Trust we are dedicated to diversity among our governing bodies, and to ensuring that every voice is heard respectfully. We actively welcome and encourage applications from communities who tend to be under-represented in school governance. We are committed to continuous improvement in how representative we are of our local communities, gender, ethnicity, religion, age, professional background, and all other aspects of diversity.
We would especially welcome applications from anyone with skills or experience from any of the following areas:
- Public sector experience
- Property and Estates Management experience
- Financial Management experience
- School sector risk management including managing conflicts of interest
- Experience of curriculum development, school assessment and progress/attainment
- Inspection and oversight in the school sector
In addition, the following areas of experience would be useful:
- Familiarity with SEND and Safeguarding concepts
- Technology / social media
- Previous school governance experience
Any new governor must have the time commitment to prepare for and attend local governing body meetings, governance training sessions and school visits, including occasional visits during the school day.
